PUMPKIN BREECHES, WAISTCOAT AND A TUNIC

As promised, the project I've been working on. The costume is for "Louis" from the musical Pippin.

The rendering I worked from.  The Boss designed the costumes after meeting with the director and figuring out what time frame and style the show will be in. There's a rendering for all the main characters and general ones for the chorus.

Over Christmas break, she shopped for fabric. Sad to say, there are no fabric shops here. The black fabric is for the waistcoat and outer breeches and the reddish fabric is for the poufy parts.  The spool of gold braid is for trim.

The muslin mock up of the breeches.  We use muslin because it cheap and you can write fitting notes on it with a sharpie.  You can see the note at the waistband that say  +2", meaning 2 inches need to be added at the front of the waistband. I didn't get a photo of the waistcoat mock up, but we used a vest pattern and drew the scoop neck line on it and add the the shoulder seam lines. Because of the time frame we had, I pulled a commercial pattern that we luckily had of pumpkin breeches. I adapted it for our need.

The under breeches, AKA the  poufy part.  The fabric has puckers which are a threaded clover leaf shape drawn up by elastic on the back. I'm still tiring to figure out how that was made. I had to undo the puckers in the seem allowance so I could sew the seem together.

My adaptation of the outer breeches. I cut all the way to the top of the pants so I could sew the gold braid on . The pieces of paper are numbered and have an arrow, so I wouldn't get the pieces out of order or upside down. Hey, it happens.

Almost done. The peplum and detail on the waistcoat need to be added. Alas, the safety pins aren't going to be on the finished costume. #6 hook and bars will hold the waistcoat closed. After we see the costume on stage , we'll decide if it needs buttons or anything else. If you check back to the rendering, you'll notice the waistcoat has a high collar. After fitting the actor, we like  the way the turtle neck of the tunic looks, so we removed the collar.

Ethan in his costume right before 1st dress last night.

Well, it is a musical! I love it when the actor loves their costume. It makes all the hard work worth it. The show opens on Thursday and I can't wait to see how all the parts fit together. Hope you all enjoyed my photo essay. Next up for us is summer stock! We'll be building 3 musical in 6 weeks, starting around the 3 week of May. Our season this summer is: A Little Night Music, The Sound of Music, and The Marvelous Wonderettes.  I'm sure I'll have lots of photos to post. Have a wonderful rest of the week.

 1ST DAY OF SPRING

Dressed like winter

This was at 11am. Thrifted jeans, Jones of New York jacket, home made hat. Here's proof that Spring has sprung

Freesia are blooming
Weird plant I don't remember planting

Blurry Spider Wort. These things grow all over the yard. I've spent hours digging them out of the lawn. I was quit shocked to see them in a garden catalog priced at 3 for $9.99! I got them: free to good home.

Little daffodils.

Think this is called spirea

Lonely flower on a large bush.

Euphorbia

This morning the temp was 42, but by Saturday we're getting thunder storms and 86! We get bi-polar weather around here in the spring.

 IT'S SPRING BREAK, Y'ALL!!!!!!!

It turned out I didn't have to work Monday after all. So I went to the half off day at Goodwill and went crazy.

An 1980's Adelle Simpson cocktail. dress.

I couldn't get a good photo of this dress, I tried 3 times. It has a mock wrap skirt with a ruffle detail and long sleeves.

Jane Schaffhausen for Belle France floral dress

The elastic in the sleeves is shot, but other than that prefect

1960's cocktail dress

close up of the fabric
Man's suede jacket. sort of Western style

Another Hawaiian dress

Size 14? Maybe it's for child, because it's really small

Early 1960"s (?) day dress. No label and I looks homemade.

Yes, it's bright pink crimplene!

And all this stuff: round lime green table cloth, Countess Mara silk tie, sexy red slip, Pacific Northwest Native American  scarf and some pink shoes.

Those shoes? Yeah they are and only $3.99.

Sparkle dust from the Dollar Tree

I hit 2 stores and spent $28 at Goodwill and $6 at the other one. Not too bad. Now I'll leave you with a taste of want I've been making at work. Because of our break, it will be next week before I can get a photo of the actor wearing this.

He's playing "Louis" in Pippin. I make the shirt, pumpkin breeches and the waistcoat. Can you stand waiting that long? Yes, you can.

NOW I'M COOL, LIKE BELLA Q!

A couple of months ago( last year?) Bella Q over at The Citizen Rosebud posted about the major awesomeness of capes. So when I saw this on an auction site, I know it would be mine.

It's red and white with these amazball buttons. The lining is red, like the bound buttonholes. These no labels or tags of any kind, but it came from Montana. And it FITS!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Now I can fly around the porch as my alter-ego superhero: Stircherella!

Flying to work. Too bad I flew right into the front door!
One more day till the weekend, too bad for me that I'll be working through Monday. Yeah, 8 days in a row. Calling what I do a "play" makes some people think it's all fun and games. But no , princess, it's a lot of work! I've been working on a really awesome costume, that I'll have photos and a post about when I get it finish. Everybody have a beautiful day! I'm flying off to work!

SPRING FORWARD

Yesterday we went to the Azalea Festival

FYI this is an azalea. They also bloom in white and coral.  They're related to the rhododendron.

One of Valdosta's nick names it the Azalea City. Hmm, wonder if that's way we have an azalea festival?

There was a band play classic rock. Don't know their name. They rocks some Bon Jovi

Lots and lots of people. One side of the park has arts and crafts and the food, while across the creek is Kid Zone.

Old fashion home made ice cream, made in these churns. (the real reason I go) They only make vanilla, but have lots of topping to pick. I had hot caramel

A lady all in silver.

The lines at the food court

Yeah, that's alligator on a stick. We decided to walk the extra 2 blocks and go to our favorite Mexican place

La Jalisco inside the Supermercado supermarket.

Pollo Sopa, yummy

Shrimp tacos, yummy

Pollo tamale, yummy
The Doctor chilling with his tamarind soda
Yep, we made the right choice. I have a big glass of horchata, which didn't make it into the picture
Today we went to Tallahassee, I got this huge fashion book at Barnes and Noble
And these cute sandals at DWS. We also bought a new vacuum cleaner,  but who wants to see a picture of that? The wheels broke off the old one. The new one has a steam cleaning adapter, so I may have to stream up the place trying  it out. It is almost spring after all.
