WEIRD DOLL WEDNESDAY, PART 248

I'm stoked right now. A couple of days ago, HBO released season 7 Game of Thrones photos. Today was the trailer.

 Here's Baby Drogon and ..............................................................

full on, bigger than a freaking jumbo jet Drogon. I can hardly contain myself.

VSU THEATRE GRADS 2017 ( OR MOST OF THEM)

Graduation was outside on the front lawn of the university and started at 7pm...didn't get finished till almost 10:30pm. Somewhere around 1,200 students graduated. I didn't go, but went to a more important (at least in my mind) event: Honors Day for the Collage of the Arts.

Student Assistant #1, Christie Jo Mayo, got the award for service to the theatre program. You get this for stepping up and going above and beyond.

Christie Jo and her proud mother, Val. This is the only photo I took, all the other ones are from the students.

The Front Lawn. The building in the middle, with the dome, is West Hall, one of the oldest building on campus. Maybe 100 years old. Taken from the drone.

Backstage, or waiting to line up and get the party started.

In front: Eric Flexer and Kailah Gordon. Austin Vickers, Mikaela Brielle, Jasmin Leilani, Talor Finley. Christie Jo, Cassandra Stowe, Rey Hicks. James Burch, Wendell Hester, Vaughn Stevens.

Cassy (student assistant #3) and Austin Vickers. Cassy is an actor tech this summer at PSST.

Eric Flexer and Talor Finley. Eric is our assistant stage manager this summer.

I don't know, maybe we should have flunked her!

Talor and Mikaela waiting in the wings. With Rey, Vaughn and Wendell in the background.

Talor, Cassy, and Wendell being photobombed by Vaughn.

 Cassy and Jasmin.

 Vaughn and Talor.

James looking very serious. This was an official VSU grad photo.

Camera? What camera. Kailah and Mikaela are ready for their close-ups. Jasmin, Kasi Basco and Austin are being way to serious. Another official photo.

Last but not least, Talor and Lizzie McCullars. Lizzie got to carry the Collage Of the Arts banner because she had the highest GPA in the Collage of the Art: 3.97. She also just stared in Midsummer Night's Dream as Tatiana. Way to go!

That (most) of the class of 2017. Break legs and good luck!

WEIRD DOLL WEDNESDAY, PART 247

Let's jump back into the Game of Thrones rabbit hole.

Tyrion Lanister in full battle mode from the Battle of the Blackwater. Tyrion is a dwarf, played by the incredible Peter Dinklage (who's a little person). Tyrion is, in my humble opinion, the smartest character in the books/show.

Started back up summer stock and am working on a salute to our 2017 grads.

Stay tuned!

WEIRD DOLL WEDNESDAY, PART 246

And we thought last week's doll was creepy.

Wonder what sort of meds she's been taking?

Semester is over, graduation was last Saturday and PSST starts up tomorrow. That was quick!

WEIRD DOLL WEDNRSDAY, PART 245

She's creepy and weird. "Bug eyed" comes to mind.

Sweet outfit and shoes for such a demented doll.

Speaking of "demented", here's a photo of our class of 2017 at the senior dinner.

15 of them. From the front row:

Kahila, Taylor, Christie jo, Cassy, Melissa (faculty),Sarah (faculty), Jacque (faculty), Eric, Barbara(office), Jasmin, Mikala,  Me, Austin, Esther (aka, The Boss), Jaye (faculty), Olin (faculty), James, Ethan, Vaughn, Wendel, Khali, Rey, Lizzie, Joe (faculty) and Duke (faculty). I think one student and a faculty couldn't make it. Ruth already had left (she lives 2 hours away).

The Senior Dinner has been a tradition for decades. We have something for our grads every semester. Without them, there is no theatre and dance area. (Don't tell them I said that)

Started pulling costumes for summer: My Fair Lady, Forever Plaid, and Shrek......proof we're crazy.

WEIRD DOLL WEDNESDAY, PART 244

Been having a bit of a rough week at work. Some "security" changes with e-mail that nobody can figure out. Turned out the best way to update was to ignore the directions in the e-mail and just go to the link at the bottom.

Here's a dragon to cheer me....and you....up

Say hello to Rhaegal. (yeah, another Game of Thrones doll)

Not working on any new shows right now. We have gone to the warehouse 3 times and almost have the place in order. Today was productive, I sorted 2 racks of 1970's maxi-dresses. Felt like I was working in a vintage store. And, no, I didn't take any photos. Maybe next time.

WEIRD DOLL WEDNSEDAY, PART 243

We're going back here, cause it's 88 days and counting. And I've read all the books three time. Game of Thrones withdrawal's.

The Hound That Rides, the biggest man in Westros.

I'll try to remember to get a photos of the choir dresses sleeves when they come back from the cleaners.

 Happy ever after!. Three wedding!

Last but not least, those dresses I made. Choir on the right.....

 and on the left.

Here's a lovely shot of all the fairy dancers.

And the attendants. Tsung Ju Clark Yang (student assistant #2) , Ashley Green, Kasey Copeland, Stephanie Stanley, Jordan van Dyke.

Man, that was a ton of work. But was a major success! Yeah, us!

Now the fun begins again. Tomorrow, The Boss and I are spend most of the day at the Hot Mess Warehouse, going to try and get it all tidy. Wish us luck!

MIDSUMMER PHOTOS (FINALY)

Midsummer Night's Dream was the biggest production we've every done.

55 piece symphony

32 actors/soloist

11 girl fairies

15 piece choir.

plus all the backstage people around 25.

47 costumes.

I started on men's costumes. This is Lysander's coat and vest.

Finished! Yep, we use ugly fabric on the inside.

 And his vest.

I moved on to Theseus' vest.

All the vest we make have real welt pockets. No faux crap around here.

 Back of Theseus' coat.

And the front. I didn't finished this because I jumped over to the choir dresses.

All 15 of them!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

They covered all sizes from 2-24. Each bodice had to be flat lined, serged, sewn together, fitted, then neck facings attached. That's where they are in this photo. Next.............

The skirt got a placket up the center back and was hand pleated to the bodices. Then I carefully took the dress off the dress form and sewed the skirt to the bodice. After another fitting, the hem was set and the sleeves were added. #6 hook and bars were then sewn on the back, no zippers, it's a period show.

 Awaiting to be finished.

22 corsets drying after the strike.

There's a lot of production photos, which will be in the next post. I know you guys enjoy the "backstage" process.

The costumes weren't the only cool part of the production. One of our students, Erika Moore, got to design the make-up. Here are a couple of her ideas. These photos are by Genny Muncy.

 Glitter make-up and flower petals.

She learned how to do airbrush make-up

In the production photo I tired to pick photos that showed more of her work. After all she won a make-up award from the Kennedy Center/American College Theatre Festival. And The Boss won for costumes ( the second one this year, as she  also won for Into the Woods). Yeah us!
