 WHAT I'VE BEEN UP TO

Making costumes for the summer shows.  This is one of 4 1950's dresses for the Marvelous Wonderettes. It's pretty much a review of 50's/60's songs. It begins in 1958, then the group has a reunion in 1968. This dress needs a final fitting, a zipper and a hem.

The 60's dress is still a work in progress. The third fabric hasn't come in yet. The dress is a take off of the famous color block dress Yves St. Laurent did. Only we changed it to the shows color scheme, green, pink, blue and peach/orange. I love it that we found go-go boots to match. Now we're on the look out for matching window pane fishnets.

Drawers and camisole times 2 awaiting a fitting

Next up was undies, or should I say "underthings"? These are for A Little Night Music. We already have corsets, so I don't have to make them(huge relief) Folkwear patterns are really fun, they not only give you a vintage pattern, but they include lots and lots of extra details and history.

My new toy, I mean equipment

Finally, a professional serger!  It's a present from our Dean who is retiring. He said we deserved it. It does a chain stitch and overcast at the same time, which means you only have to sew once and the seams are done. Changing all that thread is surprisingly easy!

Happy to be done with the semester

I'm double lurexing, sweater: $9.99 from Lane Bryant years ago, tank top thrifted for $1.50 the other week. Pendant on a new chain; $1.99.

Busy Saturday for me. This morning I'm going to pick up the 2 lots of jewelry I won on an on-line auction. Our local auction house went on-line a couple of months ago. I'll miss sitting all day at the live auction enjoying  the "show". Then graduation, and a party! Hope it doesn't rain!

Oh yeah, May the 4th Be With You!!!!!!!!!!!

And I get 9 days off!!!!!!!!!

LOVELY WEEKEND

We went here on Saturday. North of Tallahassee Florida.

It's a beautiful garden that was once owned by the Maclay family. I think they were from Scotland

Spanish moss in an oak tree, with a pine tree in the foreground

A sago palm. That bit in the middle will become a flower. Sort of looks like a peacock

 The Maclay home

The branch on the left is attached to the oak tree behind. The branch is growing along the ground.

Me in my peacock dress I got last November for my birthday

Hmm, I sense a theme. Stone peacock.

 Reflecting pond with palm trees

Man made pond with native Florida plants

 Ray, taking a break

And a peacock necklace. The blue top was thrifted. I have the dresses belt tied around my head.

Don't know what these flowers are called.

Ray: "I could go up to the top and you could take the picture"

Me: "You could do that, and I could take a picture of you breaking you neck"

The natural part of the garden

Close up of the print on my dress.

The bracelet I had to buy at Miss Kitty's Cat Rescue

 Also got these sweet earrings.

And some new kicks. Coach for less that Converse? $38, All-Stars were $44. And I saved $60!

Now I have proof. I'm sassy and everybody knows it. The theatre kids that belong to our university's USITT( united states institute of theatre techs) Chapter gave out awards on Friday.  How sweet.  Today I hacked a bunch of vines out of the yard, I swear Tarzan could have swung on some of them. Now it's raining. One more day of class, then almost 2 weeks off. We start summer stock on May 13th. Yikkies!!!!!!!!!!!!

HOW TO WEAR A VINTAGE SLIP

or trying to got a size 32 slip on a 44 body

Oh, dear!

maybe if I try this.......

Houston, we may have a problem

maybe this will work

A cowl neck wrap

Or embrace your inner pirate. Avast me hardies!

I always look for vintage slips when I go thrifting. It's hard to find  slips in the retail shops and I use then in the shows. Last summer I bought a pretty polka dot sheer dress, it was screaming at me "wear a slip, bitch!" After not finding anything in 3 stores except for Spanx like bodyshapers, I was about ready to give up. A couple of weeks later on a trip to Tallahassee I went to Dillard's and finally found a basic slip. Is it just me, or is it really hard to find basic items? A couple of Christmas' ago I had the same problem finding The Doctor a Levi's trucker jacket.

I'm wearing: stripped t-shirt $1 rack. Nice black slacks: bought new 2-years ago at Coldwater Creek $80. Vintage slip as headwrap $2

 HAPPY EARTH DAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

 SATURDAY = THRIFT DAY!

Yes, it was cold at NOON!!!!

Ray's wearing a Pendleton coat he lovingly calls "the horse blanket". It was $10 at the Goodwill in Berkeley many moons ago.

Awe, Spring!

Funny how the weather is here, 2 days ago it was in the high 80's. Some of the tomato plants have flowers already, yeah, homegrown tomatoes are the best

the $1 racks.

This is Hope Thrift, it's in an old grocery store and is huge. See that black t-shirt? Keep Facebook.......

$21 and change later

Roxie got a new hat.

I don't know if this hat is vintage or not (no labels) but it's too small for Roxie

$1 rack long sleeve t-shirt. Perfect for the 4th of July, if I lived somewhere that wasn't hot as hell in the summer
Women's Pendelton blazer, it's about a size too small, maybe by winter.........

Powder blue polyester 1970's jacket. Oh, wait, does that label say "Givenchy Sport"?

It really does, and I'm sure Mr. Givenchy is very sorry about that. Who every thought powder blue was a good color?

midnight blue acetate taffeta slip

homemade 70's dress, with drawstring waist and a pussy bow

$0.25, and it's from "Downunder"

And from the second store. It was a strange funnel neck and fits really well

this is also from the second store and was $1.99

 Back to Hope Thrift

2 lurex tanks

Thanks to Jennie from Frocktasia, I bought lurex, lurex from Old fucking Navy! And I like them, and of course, true to Old Navy's weird sizing the XL fits tighter then the L. They were $2, so how could I pass them up?

Silk blend cardi for summer. It  snaps down the front

Leslie Faye 80's dress.

Bad photo, sorry. Sort of a strange dress; it has a fake wrap skirt, and a wide elastic band at the waist and of course, a pussy bow. It's a little tight, but being long sleeved and kind of heavy, I won't be able to wear it until next winter. This weekend is much better than last. I must thank you all again for your kind words. What a week! Sometimes, when it rains, it pours.
