MY SCHOOL'S COOLER THAN YOUR SCHOOL
This weekend was the 9th Annual Emerging Artists Showcase where our Theatre and Dance Seniors get to strut their stuff. This Spring we will graduate 14 students in Musical Theatre, Performance, Dance and Theatre Tech. The Musical Theatre, Performance and Dance Seniors sang, danced to original choreography and performed scenes and monologues. The tech students had displays of their work. Here's the breakdown: 29 students were involved, 21 dancers, 2 choreographers, 2 performance and 3 musical theater, 2 tech. 15 African-Americans, 2 Hispanic surnames, 1 scholarships from Columbia, 1 exchange student from South Korea, 1 student from France and 1 immigrant from Taiwan. We may be located way, way down South, be we're diverse as all get out.
Oh, and to up our cooler than you count, we had a special visitor last month.
Yeah, that's Misty Copeland, Prima Ballerina at American Ballet Theatre sitting on our stage giving an interview. Inspiring all the young dancers who came to the talk to not give up their dreams.

WHAT? A SHOW POST
Every February and March the Theatre and Dance area tours a children's show around the region. This year the show was a dance presentation called Plants View From The Hubble Space Telescope, written, choreographed and directed by Melissa Pihos (one of our dance faculty). It tells the store of Hubble the Telescope saying good by to her friends, The Planets.
All the dancers interpreted the planets aspects through dance. All photos are by Genny Muncy. The costumes were designed by Tsung-Ju "Clark"--going to grad school- Yang.
The planets are out of order.
Mercury - Teyla Debose
Mars - Maya Timmons
Jupiter - Megan Foose
Hubble - Jorden Van Dyke
Saturn - Taylor Sanders
Hubble and Uranus - Erykah Finklea
Hubble - All the planets handed Hubble a "planet", which got put in the sky. Earth is on the sky from the beginning. The Hubble Telescope is retiring and being replaced with a new telescope.
Venus - Megan Foose. Megan dance Venus and Jupiter because the original Venus was injured.
Neptune - Rachel Tessin
And not to be left out, Pluto - Olivia Rosenthal, who was unhappy about being demoted.
The children's tour has been an event for over 25 years. This is our outreach to the school children of our area, for some this will be the only live theatre they see. Ever. I hope we continue this tradition.

WEIRD DOLL WEDNSEDAY, PART 290
Because I'm still having Game of Thrones withdrawals, Here's Khal Drogo. Dany's (first) husband.
The other day I went on Amazon and bought some new GoT action figures. Stay tuned. I've also downloaded and edited show photos. It's been awhile since I've posted anything from work. Stay tuned for that, too.
